Education Elevated strongly believes that where a child lives or their economic status should not impact their ability to earn an education to be better able to support their family and community.
Since its founding in 2008, Education Elevated has focused its efforts on providing education for the children of the Chyangba in Northeast Nepal. Chyangba is a very small, remote village that is home to many of the Sherpa people who provide support for international trekkers undertaking Mt. Everest. However, most Sherpa families continue to live in abject poverty.
Education Elevated built its first public schoolhouse in Chyangba in 2014. Boys were allowed to walk up to 2-3 hours/day to attend school; girls in outlying areas were not. Sadly, the new school was destroyed during the historic earthquake of 2015 but was rebuilt the following year using earthquake-resistant methods.
Along with the new school, Education Elevated created hostel-style accommodations for 24 girls between the ages of five and ten who live too far to walk to school every day. Education Elevated provides sponsorships for the girls to cover the cost of their education, room, and board for 10 months.
Education Elevated also supports both boys and girls by providing uniforms which are a requirement of the Government of Nepal to attend public school, as well as other needed educational items such as school supplies and teacher uniforms.
