What We Do

NAMI has established itself as a key player in the mental health field with its extensive reach and impact. Here are some key aspects of NAMI:

  1. Advocacy: NAMI plays a vital role in advocacy, working to influence public policy in favor of people with mental illness. This includes advocating for better access to services, treatment, and research, as well as the protection of the rights of people with mental illnesses. Members of NAMI Southeast Colorado participate on the advocacy/policy committee through our state chapter NAMI Colorado.

  2. Education and Support: NAMI offers a variety of educational programs and resources for individuals with mental illness, their families, professionals, and the public. These programs are designed to educate and support individuals in understanding mental health conditions and navigating mental health systems.

  3. Awareness: NAMI works to raise awareness about mental illness through events like Mental Illness Awareness Week and NAMIWalks. These initiatives aim to reduce stigma and encourage understanding and support for those affected by mental health conditions.

  4. Community Programs: We provide direct support to individuals and families through programs like support groups and educational classes. These programs are free, making them accessible to a wide range of people.

  5. Informational Line: NAMI also offers an information line that provides information, referrals, and support to individuals dealing with mental health issues. Our information line is 719-470-0407. This is not a crisis line. If you or someone you know is in a crisis, please dial 988 to connect to a crisis line.
