We need assistants for our weekly Reconnect with your Body: Dance for People w/ and w/o Parkinson's Disease classes. In-Person Reconnect classes happen on Wednesdays from 12-1pm at CO Conservatory of Dance in Broomfield. Volunteers would need to be there from 11:30am-1:30pm. Dance experience is appreciated but not required. The tasks are as follows:
- SET UP
- Prop back door for those entering from back
- Arrange chairs in a circle, move cart out of the way off to one side Set up additional chairs against wall next to both entrances to the studio for personal belongings to be stowed by dancers
- Close curtains in front of mirrors
- DURING CLASS
- Demonstrate seated version of movement and other modifications throughout class
- Help create a welcoming and supportive environment by greeting everyone, building relationships, and reminding everyone you’re there to assist and learn how best to support them throughout class
- Dance your heart out from a seated position even if nobody else is using a chair. This makes it easier for someone to join you from a seated position if they’re not alone to begin with.
- Keep an eye out for anyone who might be struggling.
- Offer support as you see fit, remind them of Sarah’s office as a rest space, encourage them to modify and reassure them of their gold star just for showing up
- Close back door during stretch break
- Assist with moving of chairs throughout class (monitoring if anyone wants help with chairs, not assuming)
- AFTER CLASS
- After class, prop back door and assist anyone to their cars as needed
- Strike chairs and put back on the cart and cover with black table covering, move cart “home” against piano wall and place signage on top of cart
- Open curtains
- Lights out
