About Breakthrough
Breakthrough is a 501c3 organization that transforms the lives of incarcerated individuals and works to shift the community's perception of individuals who have experience incarceration. Our holistic approach includes an in-facility educational program, community engagement, reentry planning, a fair chance hiring program, and criminal justice advocacy initiatives.
Our in-facility educational program, called 'The Challenge,' teaches soft skills for employment, job readiness, reentry planning, and the entrepreneurial mindset.

In-person interactions with our volunteers provide our people with hope and increased self-confidence, supporting them to transform attitudes and successfully return to the community upon release. In-prison volunteer opportunities include coaching our people at our milestone events and in-classroom coaching sessions to provide additional content and feedback.
About the Event
The Kickoff event is the very first introduction to Breakthrough’s in-facility educational program The Challenge, for our people on the inside. At this event, participants and volunteers make new connections, and the requirements and learning objectives of The Challenge are introduced.The day is spent explaining the program, participating in network activities, and engaging in empathy-building exercises.
