The F2S Program Coordinator VISTA will be involved in curriculum development, program planning, building sustainability for programming, recruiting and managing volunteers, fundraising, and ongoing professional development. They will engage youth and community members to build, maintain, and expand school gardens through a start-to-finish growing season. They will coordinate educational programs with 8 schools during the school year and educational programs throughout the summer. Programs include farm field trips, guest visits, summer camps, garden clubs, and youth farmers markets. Members provide outreach and engagement at community events to promote Farm to School and the organization’s programs and mission. The Farm to School program addresses poverty through providing equitable access to healthy and local foods, connecting students and youth to the earth and their community, and by providing educational opportunities and classes.
 
Member Duties: 
  • The F2S VISTA will serve alongside staff and administration to develop, fund, and launch culturally-relevant curriculum and school food and garden programs.
  • The VISTA will serve alongside the AmeriCorps Garden Educators to effectively and efficiently build out the Farm to School program through curriculum development, recruitment and retainment of volunteers, and fund development.
  • The F2S Program Coordinator VISTA will also strengthen systems for efficiency and sustainability of food access programs, including localizing the procurement and purchasing of local produce and expanding on-site gardens based on produce needs, by serving in conjunction with school staff and community volunteers.
Qualifications:
  • Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national or a lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S.
  • High school diploma or GED required; must be at least 18 years old 
  • Pass required criminal background checks, including a National Sex Offender Website search, to serve with at-risk or vulnerable populations. AmeriCorps service is contingent on passing these background checks. If background checks have not been resolved by the conclusion of a member’s training, they will be placed on administrative hold until they meet the clearance threshold.
  • Be willing and able to complete 1700 required hours of service (52 weeks) by April 9, 2024.
  • English fluency, with clear and concise communication skills. 
  • This is a full-time AmeriCorps position. Must be able to serve a total of 40 hours per week. Days and hours may range from Monday to Sunday and from 9am to 7pm Mountain time. Schedule will be determined by the host site’s needs. The host site recognizes that all state holidays will be treated with the same expectation as working on the weekends. Those that are scheduled to work and make calls, will still be expected to work. All regularly scheduled meetings will be cancelled on state holidays.
