DDIC is dedicated to making food access equitable to those without adequate transportation by delivering food straight to their homes. Each second Saturday of the month, DDIC holds its monthly food drive, where volunteers package and provide hundreds of packages of food that feed to families to up to a week.
What You Will Be Doing
We need committed delivery drivers with adequate transportation to pick up the packages at the masjid, plot out their drive in a region of the Denver metro of their choice, and spend about 2-3 hours delivering the packages. Deliver drivers will meet an onsite operations manager or volunteer to map out their drive for Saturday afternoon, make phone calls to the families before arrival, and prepare a greeting when meeting the families on behalf of the DDIC.
Exchanging a welcoming message
Delivering food is more than a drop-off like Uber Eats or Door Dash. It's also about exchanging a greeting with the families, a warm smile, a handshake, and being a good neighbor when appropriate. Families we serve are often newcomers to the United States, without many cultural exchanges. Here is an excellent time to use your cultural competency, understanding, and hospitality. We will provide you with some warm messages, or you can think of your own. During Ramadan, it is a great way to wish families Ramadan Mubarak.
Deliver driving is a fun way to learn a new region, spread hope, and encourage the community in an entirely new way because recipients feel more at home, well, at home!
