The Challenge Foundation Mentoring Program is a critical component of our support services. Challenge scholars are paired with a mentor in 6th grade when they enter the program. The mentor partners with the student, their family, and Challenge to provide ongoing support, encouragement, and meaningful experiences for their mentee through their high school graduation and beyond. The Challenge Foundation believes that a young person should be surrounded by as many positive and supportive adults as possible, and heralds mentoring as a fundamental aspect of the success of scholars. Above all, the Challenge Foundation seeks mentors who are dedicated to the growth of the whole person and mentors who are willing to provide the support and attention necessary so that our scholars may reach their full academic and personal potential. Challenge Foundation mentors serve as positive role models, forming a long-term, trusting relationship with a scholar while emphasizing the importance of education and career readiness, providing enrichment opportunities, forming life skills, and offering guidance.
Prerequisites:
- College degree
- No criminal history, this will be verified through a comprehensive background check.
- A clear driving record, with no major violations within the past 7 years.
Time Commitment:
- The formal length of a mentor’s commitment to a Challenge scholar is 7 years (grades 6-12).
- Regular weekly communication with your mentee via call/text/email.
- Minimum twice-a-month visits with your mentee.
