Who We Are
At Dignify Dementia, our mission is to support individuals, family members, and other care partners navigating the challenges of dementia. By providing resources and developing a community, we aim to reduce the fear and stress of adjusting to this new reality and preserve the independence and dignity of everyone living with dementia.
Our vision is a future where every individual living with dementia experiences a life of dignity, structure, and self-empowerment. We see a world where customized dementia toolkits become a cornerstone in daily routines, granting individuals the ability to stay rooted in the present and navigate their days with confidence. In this future, personal control and clear communication with healthcare providers are not luxuries but standard practice, minimizing medical oversights and enhancing the quality of care.
Dignify Dementia is a true labor of love for me, as it was inspired by my late father, Jim, who passed away from Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinsonism in early 2024. Motivated by his diagnosis and my background in public health, I committed to establishing and developing this organization in September 2022.
As a child, I gained a profound appreciation for the wisdom and experiences of older adults during the time I spent with my grandparents and their community. This allowed me to understand the significance of graceful and independent aging, emphasizing the importance of treating each senior as a unique individual and an active participant in their own care. Observing my own parents' aging process has only reinforced the idea that this vulnerable population warrants our patience, advocacy, and opportunities to thrive as they grow older.
What We Do
We help people living with dementia, as well as members of their care community, to get, and stay, organized. We do this by offering unique dementia toolkits with fillable and customizable forms that allow each person to enact simple manageable routines that:
1. Help people to stay anchored in the present,
2. Give each individual more control of their day, and
3. Have a written record of their daily life to help them better communicate with their physicians apprised, and avoid medical mistakes.
Our unique toolkit allows each person living with dementia to dictate their own day by having a document written by their own hand, to which they can refer. Our skills-based approach allows them to focus more on the positive, and provides comfort to the individual and the caregiver.
Additionally, Dignify Dementia provides a variety of helpful resources on a wide range of topics such as enrichment activities and end-of-life care on our website, DignifyDementia.org. We also offer a monthly live chat on Facebook called Caregiver Empower Hour, where we discuss various caregiving-related topics. Additionally, we host a monthly online support group for anyone affected by dementia.
