Who We Are
Mission:
Dedicated to enhancing communities by creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through an innovative and person centered approach.
History:
FRIENDS began in 1998 as a grass-roots parent advocacy network, intended to better the lives of their children with a developmental disability. The early years were focused on providing advocacy, support, information sharing, and referrals. Parents trusted FRIENDS to help them find respite and recreation resources for their children and to navigate Medicaid and school-based assistance programs. As these children entered their teenage years it was clear that there was a need in the Broomfield community for programs to help them.
What We Do
For individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, we will ensure they have a voice in the community, and access to person centered supports that promote independence and choice through our Day, Social & Travel, Residential and Supported Employment Programs. For our families, we will serve as a support and informational network, and work cooperatively to ensure life long supports for their loved ones. For our community, we will promote acceptance and understanding through education, and enhance our community through opportunities for inclusive living.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S.: Fun, Recreation, Inclusive, Experiences, Networking and Discovering the Spirit.
All volunteers are required to pass a background check, complete training and complete an orientation prior to signing up for opportunities (this does not include one-time volunteers - example: corportate groups)
