What We Do

The Salvation Army’s Denver Metro Programs and Services

Lambuth Family Center

Address: 2741 N. Federal Blvd, Denver

In 1987, Lambuth Family Center opened its doors as a transitional living facility for families. The goal of Lambuth Family Center, a family emergency shelter, is to help families break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and homelessness, and to begin building a sustainable self-sufficient lifestyle.

Today, as a 90-day family emergency shelter, Lambuth Family Center serves approximately 20 families at a time or an average of 80 households a year. The goal of Lambuth Family center is that all families stay in shelter for as little time as possible and upon exit, secure permanent and stable housing in the Denver community through trauma informed supportive case management and enrichment services. Housing is the priority in its Pathway of Hope case management, with education, employment, income, benefits, and other potential barriers to housing being secondary areas of focus.

Through the enrichment program parents can access valuable life skills classes to help them gain and retain permanent housing. The program partners with various community agencies to provide evening and weekend classes for children and adults to provide enrichment activities for all members of the household and to strengthen members of the family individually and as a familial unit.

Housing Now

Address: 2821 W 65th Pl, Westminster

Starting with one-time rental assistance in 2014, Housing Now expanded its focus in 2018 to serve even more households experiencing homelessness. Housing Now partners with households to help them transition from homelessness to long-term stable housing by providing them with financial assistance, out-of-the-box case management and housing navigation support, Pathway of Hope strength-based case management with a focus on individual choice and collaboration with community partners to increase access to housing and other basic needs.

The program uses progressive engagement model to provide the lightest touch and most appropriate interventions possible through case management and rental assistance.  Housing Now provides flexible rental assistance as needed to qualifying families (ex. 100% of rent may be paid the first month, then each case is reviewed monthly with the goal of reducing the percentage of support). This assistance may last up to 6 months beyond the program’s initial assistance, while case management is available for a year.

Housing Now also provides one-time, eviction prevention assistance to households when the funds are available.

A component of the Housing Now program, these projects assist Denver Public Schools (DPS) and Adam 14 School District (Adams14) children and their families, who are homeless or precariously housed to secure or maintain for them safe housing through a variety of rental assistances and eviction diversion options

Harbor Light

Address: 2136 Champa St., Denver

In 1984, The Salvation Army opened the Denver Harbor Light Center as a safe haven for men recovering from addiction and seeking to prevent relapse. The primary goal of this free residential program is to help men obtain a sustainable, self-sufficient living situation free from addiction through the development of essential life skills.

Participants must complete a detox program before entering Harbor Light.  The facility also provides transitional housing to veterans who have experienced homelessness.

Addiction recovery utilizes holistic work-therapy, group and individual counseling, spiritual direction and life skills development as participants learn to abandon substance reliance. The program also focuses on building work and social skills, regaining health and stability and restoring families.

For the relapse prevention portion of the program, men complete three phases that focus on relapse prevention and education, vocational and spiritual growth, and transitional living as they work toward financial stability.  Harbor Light has a maximum of 120 men, a portion of which are part of a Veterans Affairs grant for 34 beds (24 transitional and 10 clinical).

Crossroads

Address: 1901 29th Street, Denver

Opening in 1983 as a nightly emergency shelter, Crossroads serves men who are experiencing homelessness through 24/7 access to emergency sheltering. Crossroads provides a safe place designed to create hope for individuals experiencing homelessness to spend their days and nights.

Housing focused case management and housing navigation services are provided with the goal of guests quickly moving out of shelter and into permanent or stable housing. The shelter provides low barrier access to walk up and reserved beds to those who are unhoused. The program provides three meals a day, spiritual care, offering laundry facilities, storage, and showers.

The goal of the program is to develop hope and change that leads to permanent or stable housing for men experiencing homelessness. Crossroads has capacity for 250 (300 Cold Weather) to promote social distancing and a safer environment for guests.

NON-CONGREGATE SHELTERS

(INCLUDING ACTIVATED RESPITE/PROTECTIVE ACTION HOTELS (AR/PA))

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and at the request of the City of Denver, The Salvation Army took over operations of 7 hotels focused on serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness who are affected by COVID-19. We had 1 activated respite hotel that served households where a family member has tested COVID positive. This provided a safe place for the household to isolate. We had 5 hotels that are dedicated to protective action. These hotels are designated for households who have been screened into the program due to their severe health risk of complications due to a COVID 19 infection from pre-existing conditions.  We also provide operations at one hotel that is flexibly utilized by the city as general emergency sheltering or activated respite.

UPDATE: Currently, a total of two Protective Action and one Activated Respite hotel(s) are in operation. One Protective Action hotel (Aloft) has transitioned to sole operation by TSA, through December 2022. The two remaining hotels (one Protective Action and one Activated Respite) are projected to extend through September, and December 30, 2022.

TSA and The Gathering Place (TGP) collaboration on the Rodeway NCS began on 2/1/22. TGP is providing 24/7 operation and program support, while TSA is providing oversight of the facility. Current contract term is February 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022.

Connection Center

Address: 11701 E 33rd Ave, Aurora

303-295-3366

theconnectioncenter@usw.salvationarmy.org

The Salvation Army Connection Center is a call center designed to give people in need immediate access to The Salvation Army programs, services and information.  Unlike 211, which provides only information and referral, Connection Center caseworkers are available to provide triage assessment, initial intakes, appointments, and ‘front-door’ access into our programs.  A person can literally be ‘connected’ to Salvation Army services and even receive an appointment time to meet with a caseworker in person, just by calling the Connection Center number.

The call center volunteers and staff have three goals:

  • to provide people in need easy access to The Salvation Army’s programs and ministries within every zip code in the Intermountain Division.  This includes being the ‘front-door’ for clients living in areas served by volunteer-led Service Extension units.
  • to connect callers with the appropriate services, information, and Salvation Army contacts.  This may mean that the Connection Center’s caseworkers will need to interview, secure the appropriate documentation, and process some people over the phone.  We also boast the most accurate resource list in the Denver Metro area (6 counties), which we use to connect callers to other agencies and community services if needed.
  • to provide effective customer service job training for Salvation Army residential program participants who are looking to develop their skills and gain confidence in that field.

SEARCH & CONNECT

~ Connection Center field-based sub-program ~

Search & Connect team is comprised of five specialized case managers. This new program (as of the end of 2021) is grant-funded by The City of Denver, with the goal to close the gap for homeless clients who have been matched through coordinated entry to a housing case manager/resource but have not been located. This team is field based, HMIS trained, flexible, and creative.

 CENTRAL KITCHEN

The Central Kitchen is located at Harbor Light and provides meals for Harbor Light, Crossroads, and Lambuth.
