Volunteer: Mentor/Volunteer

A REVEL mentor is somebody who facilitates meaningful experiences for REVELers by building connections, supporting activities, helping where needed, and by honoring REVELer values and agency. They are the heart of our community by inspiring the group to try new adventures and build meaningful relationships. REVEL mentors are energetic, positive role models who help provide guidance and a fun time for our REVELers.

Volunteer mentors will be given an initial training on autism, REVEL and mentor responsibilities. You must pass a background check. Mentors will be supervised by a program manager and supported throughout their time at REVEL.

 

Areas of responsibility:

Giving and receiving feedback Critical thinking Incorporating client values Maintaining dignity Demonstrating boundaries with REVELers and coworkers Honoring REVELer requests and choices Communication Relationship-building Comes prepared for daily activities Participate in program activities Arrives on time and stays until end of shift

REVEL offers a variety of experiences throughout the week to its clients. Here is a list of possible activities you will be participating in:

Cooking classes Volunteer work (gardening, foodbanks, equine centers) Wellness Activities (dance, rock climbing, archery, hiking, yoga) Art and music classes Museum exploration Trampoline Parks Waterparks and Lake days Outdoor Adventure Camps

Mentorship Benefits and Incentives:

Develop awareness of business and career opportunities Autism awareness and education Internship credit/experience  Connection with the Denver community (free & low cost activities are provided by the organization) Opportunity to make lasting friendships and impact someone else’s life, as well as your own Resume builder for volunteer and extracurricular activities Community service hours
