Volunteer: A Child's Song Board Member

 A Child’s Song is a 501c3 non-profit organization that has been around for 24 years! Our mission is to nurture an appreciation for music while providing programs and education to share  developmental, healing, and social-emotional benefits of music for children and adults. We provide music classes and innovative approaches to sharing music, through early childhood programs, school/community outreach, and individual/group instrument instruction. Our Music Outreach programs bring music education and movement opportunities that foster hope and joy to youth in under-served communities. We do this by partnering with a variety of community and public organizations throughout the metro Denver area.  Our Mission:  A Child’s Song nurtures an appreciation for music while providing programs and education to share the developmental, healing, and social-emotional benefits of music for children and adults. Our Values: Provide a nurturing atmosphere of love, safety, and acceptance in which to appreciate music Provide an opportunity to grow together in a setting that advances and preserves the art of creating music Provide an environment that fosters physical, social, and emotional development Instill positive self-esteem  Be an inspiration  Be accountable to the community  Pursue excellence   EXPECTATIONS OF THE BOARD AS A WHOLE: As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for Determining the mission and purposes of the organization Selecting and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director Strategic and organizational planning  Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management  Fundraising and resource development  Approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services   Enhancing the organization’s public image   Assessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization    EXPECTATIONS OF INDIVIDUAL BOARD MEMBERS  Each individual board member is expected to: Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs Faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statement Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission Give a meaningful personal financial donation Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing and can influence public policy Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings    Further, board members are expected to: Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization Attend meetings approximately once per month

(Brighton, Broomfield, Denver, Littleton, Louisville, Lafayette, Northglenn, Thornton, Westminster)    Potential Board Member Projects:   Strategic Direction- Ensure ACS sustainability    Finances/ Budget  Short-Term goals  Long-Term Goals  Planning for Board/ staff succession     Fundraising- Increase ACS revenue generation    Events (CO gives day/ Silent Auctions, Concerts)  Sponsorships  Grant Writing     Relationship Building- Increase ACS visibility/ collaboration/ community involvement    Corporations (corporate)  Nonprofits  Schools/Preschools
