Volunteer: CRC Statewide Data Analyst VISTA (GrantCorps)

Community Resource Center (CRC), a Denver based nonprofit, supports, strengthens, and galvanizes change-makers across the nonprofit ecosystem, working together to create a more equitable Colorado. As an innovator and statewide convener, CRC listens to partners’ challenges and considers new ways to provide support and access to tools most needed by organizations throughout the state. A significant and ongoing challenge faced by small, rural-based, and BIPOC-led and serving nonprofits is access to grant funding. Often, smaller organizations lack the staff capacity to conduct research for, write, and develop systems for management and reporting on grants. The GrantCorps VISTA will combat this barrier by engaging with rural nonprofits addressing poverty and building their capacity through fund development and grant writing. They will gain valuable insight and experience in fund development by initiating grant research, grant proposal and report preparation, resource mapping, and creation of grant and budget tracking tools. This second-year VISTA will continue compiling records throughout their term of service to establish best practices for this new model of capacity building and create tools to regularly evaluate success. They will create an implementation plan and provide recommendations for subsequent VISTA member(s) for improvements to increase success. This role will address the sustainability of services to low-income communities, and the streams of funding that make access to those services possible. By doing so, the VISTA will increase the ability of our partners to improve educational, health, housing, and professional development outcomes.   Member Duties:  The Statewide Data Analyst GrantCorps VISTA will: 1) Use CRC’s Colorado Grants Guide (CGG) and other platforms to identify funding opportunities, deadlines, and key donor details and develop customized recommendations for rural nonprofits 2) Provide orientation to those using the CGG to help them navigate the tool 3) Plan and initiate an outreach campaign 3) Collaborate with their supervisor and partner organizations to draft, review, and edit grant narratives and grant reports 4) Improve efforts to engage statewide funders and nonprofits in research on effective grant application and reporting tools 5) Research diverse funding opportunities 6) Implement updates and expansions of CGG profiles and content 7) Utilize CRC’s collection of statewide funding data to make recommendations for organizations in rural communities 8) Engage with grant tracking and CRM systems, developing recommendations for CRC and partner organizations to effectively utilize these tools.   Qualifications: Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national or a lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S. High school diploma or GED required; must be at least 18 years old  Pass required criminal background checks, including a National Sex Offender Website search, to serve with at-risk or vulnerable populations. AmeriCorps service is contingent on passing these background checks. If background checks have not been resolved by the conclusion of a member’s training, they will be placed on administrative hold until they meet the clearance threshold. Be willing and able to complete 1700 required hours of service (52 weeks) by April 9, 2024. English fluency, with clear and concise communication skills.  This is a full-time AmeriCorps position. Must be able to serve a total of 40 hours per week. Days and hours may range from Monday to Sunday and from 9am to 7pm Mountain time. Schedule will be determined by the host site’s needs. Volunteer: Education Elevated Board Opening for Treasurer

Education Elevated strongly believes that where a child lives or their economic status should not impact their ability to earn an education to be better able to support their family and community.

Since its founding in 2008, Education Elevated has focused its efforts on providing education for the children of the Chyangba in Northeast Nepal. Chyangba is a very small, remote village that is home to many of the Sherpa people who provide support for international trekkers undertaking Mt. Everest. However, most Sherpa families continue to live in abject poverty.

Education Elevated built its first public schoolhouse in Chyangba in 2014. Boys were allowed to walk up to 2-3 hours/day to attend school; girls in outlying areas were not. Sadly, the new school was destroyed during the historic earthquake of 2015 but was rebuilt the following year using earthquake-resistant methods.

Along with the new school, Education Elevated created hostel-style accommodations for 24 girls between the ages of five and ten who live too far to walk to school every day. Education Elevated provides sponsorships for the girls to cover the cost of their education, room, and board for 10 months.

Education Elevated also supports both boys and girls by providing uniforms which are a requirement of the Government of Nepal to attend public school, as well as other needed educational items such as school supplies and teacher uniforms.

For more information on the organization’s history and activities, please go to Education Elevated’s website at www.educationelevated.org.

Our Board supports the work of Education Elevated in improving access to education and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Education Elevated’s chief executive officer (CEO), the Board-CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.

Specific Board Member responsibilities include:

A.  Leadership, governance, and oversight including serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO as s/he develops and implements Education Elevated’s strategic plan and participating on committees, task forces and/or taking on special assignments.

B.  Fundraising including supporting the annual garden concert fundraiser and making an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual passionate about Education Elevated’s mission of education for all and who either has a track record of board leadership or a strong desire to get involved. Selected Board Members will have a variety of skills and experience in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector to help grow the reach and impact of the organization. His/her accomplishments and networks will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

   Professional experience and/or significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector

   A commitment to and understanding of Education Elevated’s education for all philosophy, preferably based on experience

   Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals

   Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Education Elevated’s beneficiaries

Service on Education Elevated’s Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Board Members’ duties.

Volunteer: Barn and lesson volunteer

Volunteers assist in the daily care of our horses and serve as side walkers, ground-based horse leaders, or horse leaders during lessons. All volunteers start with a general orientation and then move on to training. They can choose to train to feed horses and muck stalls, side walk during lessons, and horse lead during lessons.

We feed our horses three times daily, and we muck stalls once daily. There is a one-time training for Feeders/Muckers.

Side walkers walk alongside our clients on horseback, are responsible for the safety of the client during the lesson, and support the client as needed. There is also a one-time training for side walkers.

The first level of Horse Leaders is our Ground-based Horse Leaders. They help turn out the horses, hand-walking horses for exercise, and getting horses groomed and ready for lessons that don't involve a client riding. Training for Ground-based horse leaders consists of working with a mentor to learn the needed skills and then evaluating those skills by an instructor.

Lesson Horse Leaders are responsible for grooming and tacking up the horse before lessons, leading the horse during lessons, and untacking and grooming the horse after lessons.   Training for Lesson Horse Leaders also involves working with a mentor to learn needed skills for lessons beyond those of a Ground-based Horse Leader and then evaluating those skills by an instructor.

Each lesson requires a Horse Leader and up to two Side Walkers depending upon the client's needs.

All volunteers must complete training to learn unique client assistance techniques and horse-handling methods. Horse experience and experience working with people with disabilities is a plus but unnecessary. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to serve as Side Walkers or Horse Leaders. Volunteers under 16 can assist with horse care outside of the arena and other barn tasks but must be accompanied by a trained adult volunteer when volunteering.

To volunteer, please complete an application here:  https://www.therightstepinc.org/become-a-volunteer.html.

Volunteer: Coach Mentor

College and Career Success:  Coach Mentoring is a year-long program that matches 10th-grade students with industry professionals that help support them in envisioning and planning their career and post-secondary journey. A Coach Mentoring Program Coordinator recruits students from their CTE classes and/or based on specific demographic information tailored towards affinity spaces.

Students and mentors participate in facilitated monthly sessions that include topics such as Informational interviewing, job shadowing, career exploration, resume building, college visits, and more. The program ends with a celebration and presentation of learning that summarizes their takeaways and their future plans based on their experience in the program.

Middle School Cohorts:

A similar mentoring program is currently facilitated at two middle school locations. Middle school students engage in self-exploration activities designed to deepen their career identity and plan for high school

Affinity Cohorts:

Affinity groups are designated “safe spaces,” where everyone in that group shares a particular identity. For people who are often underrepresented, underserved, and often excluded by the systems in which they operate, an affinity space can offer the community and reduce feelings of isolation through the benefit of shared experiences. This offers an opportunity for young people to see themselves reflected in others and boost their confidence around what success and achievement look like to them.
Currently, we offer affinity mentoring for BIPOC and Spanish-speaking students, as well as Women in STEAM. We hope to expand to serve our Special Education and LGBTQIA+ students.

Safe Parking Advocates work alongside the Safe Parking Initiative Program Lead to speak with and educate congregants about the benefits of Safe Parking in Colorado Springs and church mission related to the homeless in the community.

Safe Parking Advocates may also help to identify other congregation members, who are interested in supporting Benefits in Action’s Safe Parking Initiative. Volunteers may also work within their networks using social media to advocate for the Safe Parking Initiative in Colorado Springs.

Volunteer: Do something BIG. Become a Mentor!

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Colorado is in high demand for (BIG) Mentors!  A BIG is an adult volunteer that is matched with our youth (Little), for a one-to-one mentorship/relationship program(s).  We support and oversee the success of each match by communicating regularly with the volunteers, the children, and their families; and by providing activities designed to strengthen the match relationship.

You can make a difference through the proven power of one-to-one mentoring!

These successful mentoring relationships have a lasting impact on young people and their families.  By becoming a mentor, you help impact the life of a Little by improving their sense of self and sense of future, form positive relationships with peers and family, avoid risky or delinquent behavior, and achieve educational success.

We are looking for dedicated adults to join us as mentors and help ignite the potential for our Littles!

Volunteer: Volunteer Advocate

Our Volunteer Advocates work directly supporting survivors and loved ones on our 24-hour hotline. Our 24-hour Crisis Hotline provides support and information to survivors of sexual assault and sexual violence. Volunteer Advocates are trained in crisis intervention, emotional support, advocacy skills and referrals to local community resources. Because calls are confidentially patched through to any number the advocate likes, working on the hotline is an incredibly flexible way to make a very direct impact. Previous experience with advocacy work is not required, though we require hotline advocates to attend our 40-hour hotline training and commit to picking up 4 shifts (6 hours each) per month for at least a year.

Sexual Violence impacts us all and as an advocate you will find immense meaning in supporting survivors directly on the hotline and make an immediate impact in your community. Our volunteers often say that the skills and experience they gain from this role help them in all areas of their personal and professional life. The connections you make in this program last a lifetime.
