About CCHI: The Colorado Consumer Health Initiative (CCHI) is a nonprofit, non-partisan, membership-based organization working to advance the consumer voice to improve access to health care for all Coloradans by working statewide for progress toward equity, affordability, and quality. CCHI is actively working to break down barriers in accessing health care through innovating in public policy, building inclusive coalitions and partnerships, and engaging community members in our work. We work through a three-pronged approach that advocates for policy change. Our policy, strategic engagement, and consumer assistance teams work together to find relief for Coloradans whose access to healthcare and financial security are compromised by affordability, poor benefits, and unfair business practices of the healthcare Industry. Serving as a health care watchdog for Colorado consumers, CCHI exists to help people get the health care they need, when they need it. Vision: For all Coloradans to have equitable access to affordable, high quality health care Mission: To advance the consumer voice to improve access to health care for all Coloradans by working statewide for progress toward equity, affordability, and quality Board Purpose: To advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and strategic governance of Colorado Consumer Health Initiative, supporting the organizational mission and needs. About CCHI Board of Directors: CCHI is comprised of up to 15 members and no less than 6 members, including the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee includes the Board Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary. Members of the Executive Committee Remaining legal requirements of the Board of Directors are listed in the organizational bylaws. CCHI Board members are the fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission. Ultimately, board members serve as ambassadors for CCHI’s mission, inside and outside of organizational commitments. Primary responsibilities and expectations for all Board Members: Board members play significant roles providing guidance to CCHI by contributing to the organization’s culture, strategic focus, effectiveness, and financial sustainability, as well as serving as ambassadors and advocates Provide leadership and support for CCHI’s mission, programs and services. Agree to a three-year board term with the option of renewal for two consecutive terms (possible six years total). Assume fiduciary responsibility for and act with due diligence in oversight of the organization’s annual budget, audit reports, 990s, and material financial business decisions. Serve on at least one standing committee or task force, preferable as chair, and attend related meetings. Volunteer for and willingly accept assignments, completing them thoroughly and on time. Commit to the board’s 100%, annual philanthropic commitment through a personally-significant financial contribution. Participate in fundraising for CCHI. Serve as an organizational ambassador, communicating and promoting CCHI’s mission and programs to the community and personal networks and be alert to issues that should be brought to the organization’s attention. Get to know other board members and CCHI’s stakeholders; build a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus. Stay informed about board matters, prepare for meetings, and engage in discussion on issues of importance Regularly attend monthly board meetings and be an active participant in board meetings, annual retreat and relevant, related meetings. Attend at least two other CCHI meetings or events in a calendar year. Respond to requests for feedback or decisions between meetings over email/phone in a timely manner. Commit to professional development (one or two trainings recommended per year) related to CCHI’s mission and/or nonprofit excellence. Participate in annual self-evaluation of board service. Participate in hiring and oversight of Executive Director. Participate in creation of strategic plan and the annual review of the strategic plan. Meetings and time commitment: The board of directors meets the first Thursday of each month at 5:00 pm. Advance preparation is expected and we strive to keep meetings to one hour.
