Where you'll be:
Shurview Natural Area is Greeley's newest natural area, spanning 978 acres of prairies, bluffs, and arroyos situated between Greeley and Windsor. This land expansion not only doubles the city's acreage of open space but also furthers its commitment to community vitality through local conservation and equitable access to nature. The vision for this natural area is to create a recreational hub with a networked trail system.
What you'll do:
Volunteers will collaborate with the City of Greeley Natural Area and Trails staff to construct a sustainable multi-use trail. Positioned between two naturally formed arroyos, volunteers will explore this hidden gem. Following the Greeley Trails Master Plan, volunteers will implement the winning conceptual design chosen by the local community. This marks the continuation of a previous trail construction project on June 15th, 2023.
Why it's important:
This project will introduce new, sustainable recreational opportunities in the Front Range. Given its location and size, this natural area is expected to attract visitors from across northern Colorado. With diverse users such as mountain bikers, birdwatchers, and hikers anticipated, this 978-acre property presents a blank canvas for recreation. Volunteers will play a pivotal role as the first to break ground on the trail construction, ensuring the creation of a sustainable trail system that requires minimal maintenance, allowing users to enjoy it for years to come.
