Looking for an easy way to get outside and give back to your community? Look no further! Through our long-standing partnership with Grow Local Colorado, volunteers ages 8+ will spend the morning harvesting a vegetable garden and prepping it for winter at Christ the King church. All harvest from this garden supports Metro Caring and SAME Cafe.
Purpose
The produce that VOC volunteers planted in the spring are now mature and ready to be donated to local organizations including food banks, homeless shelters, and families in need. This partnership with Grow Local Colorado creates a more connected community; demonstrates the beauty and efficacy of edible gardens; inspires residents to plant their own vegetable gardens; and contributes to a more sustainable food chain by reducing our carbon footprint.
Role
VOC is excited to team up with our long-term partner, Grow Local Colorado, to harvest vegetable gardens that demonstrate the beauty of edible gardens, engage community participation, and inspire Denver residents to grow their own vegetable gardens. Tasks will involve harvesting vegetables, weeding, and raking the soil. Depending on what is available to harvest the day of the project, there may be the opportunity for volunteers to join VOC and/or Grow Local staff in a trip to a local food bank to drop off the freshly-harvested produce.
