Job Description: Executive Chair - Nonprofit Board of Directors

Position Overview:

The Executive Chair is a vital leadership role within Malas for Tatas Board of Directors. As the Executive Chair, you will be responsible for providing strategic guidance, fostering effective governance, and ensuring the fulfillment of the organization's mission and objectives. This position requires a strong commitment to the organization's cause, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the Board of Directors, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission, goals, and values.
  • Foster an environment that promotes innovation, adaptability, and continuous improvement in achieving the organization's objectives.
  • Collaborate with the board and executive team to develop and implement long-term strategies that drive the organization's success.
  • Governance and Board Development:
  • Facilitate the effective functioning of the Board of Directors, ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the selection, recruitment, orientation, and evaluation of board members to maintain a diverse and high-performing board.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and open communication among board members, promoting constructive discussions and decision-making.
  • External Relations and Advocacy:
  • Serve as a primary ambassador and spokesperson for the organization, representing its interests to external stakeholders, including donors, partners, government officials, and the community.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to enhance the organization's visibility, reputation, and support.
  • Advocate for the organization's mission and goals, raising awareness about relevant issues and mobilizing resources to advance the organization's initiatives.
  • Financial Oversight and Fundraising:
  • Work closely with the finance committee to ensure the organization maintains sound financial management practices, including budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with the executive team and board members to develop and execute fundraising strategies to support the organization's programs and initiatives.
  • Engage in donor cultivation and stewardship efforts, leveraging your network and influence to secure financial resources and partnerships.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated passion for the organization's mission, with a deep commitment to its values and goals.
  • Proven leadership experience, ideally in a nonprofit, board, or executive role.
  • Strong knowledge of governance principles and best practices in the nonprofit sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to make informed decisions in a collaborative and consensus-driven environment.
  • Experience in fundraising and resource mobilization, with a track record of successful donor engagement.
  • Understanding of financial management, budgeting, and risk management principles.
  • Integrity, ethics, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of governance and accountability.
