Volunteer: Fight Hunger Where It Happens - Volunteer with the Mobile PantryWe are currently seeking volunteers for Thursday and Friday shifts The JFS Mobile Food Pantry provides food assistance in areas of need for those facing food insecurity. The Mobile Pantry travels to inner city neighborhoods and housing complexes with high percentages of food insecurity and to community and recreation centers to reach those with transportation barriers. Removing transportation barriers ensures families experiencing food insecurity will have continued access to healthy, fresh, and culturally relevant foods such as produce, meats, and dried goods, as well as information on how to access the more than 30 programs and services offered by JFS. Assist in the set up and distribution of food to neighborhood areas where people have limited access to healthy food. Track shopper information to keep an accurate count at the sites. Greet all customers and ensure they have a positive shopping experience. Locations vary, see current sites here: Google Map. Sites are subject to change, therefore volunteers must be flexible. Many of our older adults who live in their own homes go days without the phone ringing or seeing another face. You can help break this social isolation by providing companionship to an older adult. With your help we can increase the number of seniors who have a friendly visit. As a volunteer, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you have touched the life of another. Volunteer: Become an Adaptive Bike CompanionJoin the adaptive cycling pilot program for Douglas County residents in the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) community as an Adaptive Bike Companion! This program will run from May through September and participants will get to explore various trails in the area. This will break barriers to exploring the outdoors and help people with disabilities increase mobility, enjoy benefits of improved physical and mental health, build social connections, work on bike and safety skills and have fun in their community!Commitment: Once or twice a week. Shifts: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays: 8:15am–11:15am or 11:15am–2:15pm; Tuesdays, Thursdays: 11:15am–2:15pm or 4:45pm–7:45pm. A commitment of 4-5 weeks preferred.Additional Requirements: Background check, CAPS check, and proof of the first two COVID vaccinations. CPR/First Aid is a plus.
