Who We Are

We are a group of passionate stewards who care for the South Platte River and its tributaries, and for the people who live, work, and play along its banks. We are a Denver-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. For the last 50 years, we have been leading efforts to reclaim the South Platte River and its tributaries from a virtual cesspool to a place of environmental and recreational pride. Our Vision Care for and enjoyment of all Denver waterways supported by a vibrant, inclusive, and informed community. Our Mission The Greenway Foundation’s mission is to enhance and protect Denver’s waterways through equitable community engagement, education, and stewardship.

What We Do

We are a Denver-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We help protect and preserve the environment through stewardship and volunteer programs. We run fun, free community events to engage neighbors and families with our local environment, ranging from outdoor musical festivals, to Family Fishing clinics, to community campouts. Through SPREE (South Platte River Environmental Education), we welcome kids from throughout the community, focusing on safe, accessible, and welcoming spaces, introducing the river to the next generation of stewards. We bring kids to engage with the South Platte River through memorable education experiences that go beyond learning to create a lifetime connection, through school field trips and summer camps. We employ high school students and train them to be environmental educators. We offer free trips for high schoolers to try out new outdoor activities that they wouldn't otherwise have access to.
