Who We Are
BSCS Science Learning is an independent nonprofit that has been leading efforts to improve science education in the US for over 65 years. We are working toward a vision of society in which every person enters adulthood prepared to use science to build a better future for themselves and their communities. In pursuit of our vision, BSCS engages in research, development, and implementation in three areas: resources to support teaching and learning, professional learning for educators, and capacity-building in educational systems. Our research-driven innovation has already brought student-centered inquiry learning to thousands of science classrooms and millions of students across the US, but we will continue to work tirelessly to improve science teaching and learning for all young people.
What We Do
At BSCS Science Learning, we are working toward a world where everyone is inspired and prepared to use science to build a better future. In this world, each individual will have an understanding of science they can use to improve their lives, contribute to their communities, and succeed in their careers.
To get there, all young people need access to a high quality science education.
That’s where we come in. BSCS is on a mission to transform K-12 science teaching and learning nationwide.
Since our founding in 1958, BSCS has been committed to the idea that science is not just something you know but something you do. Both scientific knowledge and scientific know-how are critically important to life in the modern age. Over the years our views on what it means to understand and do science have changed, as have our views about why it is important. Today, we have a deeper appreciation of the importance of science education for our personal and civic lives. We are working to prepare young people for decisions in the doctor’s office, the feed store, and the voting booth, along with building the foundation they will need if they choose to continue on to STEM careers.
