Who We Are
The first Colorado-based chapter of the American Red Cross was chartered on Nov. 11, 1914. Today, there are four chapters in Colorado which is part of the Colorado & Wyoming Region. These chapters include: the Mile High Area, Northern Colorado, Western Colorado and Southeastern Colorado The American Red Cross is not a government agency. It relies on the donations of time, money and resources from individuals in the local community, corporate partners and like-minded foundations to do its work. Red Cross Services are provided throughout Colorado thanks to the generous commitment of thousands of local volunteers who: Help individuals and communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters; Teach lifesaving skills to tens of thousands of individuals; Provide transportation for the critically ill and elderly and; Offer support to U.S. service members and their families in Colorado. And provide lifesaving information to immigrant and migrant communities, promote international Humanitarian Law and reconnect families separated by war or disaster. What We Do
Our Work We help Colorado communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. Some of our work is listed below: Pillowcase Project The American Red Cross Pillowcase Project is a free, interactive preparedness program designed for youth ages 8 to 11. The program aims to increase awareness and understanding of natural hazards and teaches safety, emotional coping skills, and personal preparedness. For more information about how your school, after-school program or community group can participate, please select "The Pillowcase Project" on this Presentation Request Form and a Red Cross representative will be in touch with you within 3-5 business days. Disaster Preparedness At the Red Cross, we are aiming to do more before disasters strike, to build a "culture of prevention" and to limit the harm inflicted on families and communities. Disaster Services When disaster strikes, the Red Cross is ready to provide a place to sleep, warm meals, clothing, emotional support and hope to those affected. Volunteer Services We could have just the opportunity you’re looking for, whether it's training to respond to disasters, supporting a blood drive, delivering messages to members of our military, or connecting families displaced by conflict, we hope you'll join our mission. Training Services We offer training in first aid, CPR/AED, swimming and water safety, care giving and more. Service to the Armed Forces We relay urgent messages between U.S. service members and their families through our global communications.
